2008 Highlights

The LIX dinner/speaker evening

What a fabulous evening we had at this year's LIX dinner/speaker meeting at The Pantry on March 13th.  The food was amazing (as usual) and we were absolutely thrilled to have the butchly and talented writer/storyteller, Ivan Coyote, as our guest speaker.  Did she have the audience eating out of the palm of her hand?  Is Jodie Foster a dyke?  One of the most amazing things about listening to Ivan 'read' is that she doesn't read...she TELLS you the stories from memory.  So every time is like the first time...fresh, vibrant, funny and heart-warming.  And Ivan's stories are about OUR lives...the lives of dykes.  Huge thanks to Carolyn and her crew at The Pantry, to the LIX Chicks who volunteered their time, and to Ivan for creating a truly magical evening! 2007 Highlights

LIX and Capital Pride 2007.

Proud Chicks Dance Party III rock on!! Yet another FABULOUS dance, if we don't say so ourselves! We absolutely would not be able to offer this dance each year without the help of those truly amazing dykes who volunteer their time and energy. Thank you to all of you wonderfull LIX chicks who helped us put on the dance of the year!

Also during Pride this year, LIX marched in the Dyke March, which was held on Saturday, August 25th, and we marched in the Capital Pride Parade held on Sunday, August 26th.

The LIX dinner/speaker evening was a rip-roaring success! The food was excellent...thanks to the amazing talents of Carolyn, the owner of The Pantry. Our guest writers, Alex Brett and Helen Humphreys, had us totally enthralled as they each read from their work and then kindly stayed for a question and answer session. Alex gave us a special sneak preview into her latest mystery novel, tentatively entitled The Liar's Lab. Helen read from her haunting and evocative novel, Wild Dogs. What a treat to listen to this award-winning author! Warm thanks to Alex and Helen for honouring us LIX Chicks at our winter dinner/speaker meeting. And a special thanks to Helen's partner, Valerie, for coming outside and smoking with me...thanks girlfriend! [click here for photos]

LIX Pride Week events...the film '533 Statements' on Monday, August 21st, at SAW Gallery and The Proud Chicks Dance Party 2 on Friday, August 25th at Lakeside Gardens. There's a write-up about both events and some photos of LIX Chicks in the 2006 Pride Parade in our September 2006 newsletter.

Our first meeting at our new location: the Roasted Cherry was so packed that people on the street were stopping with that 'Oh...must be a celebrity event taking place here' look on their faces.
