Hey LIX Chicks,

Well the final fundraising tally is not in yet but I think we can safely assume that Kerry Beckett and the LIX Chicks raised close to, if not, the MOST money again this year at 'A Taste For Life'.  Kerry managed to fill The Foolish Chicken on Holland Avenue for both seatings...and there are two floors in this restaurant!  Paul Dewar, MP for Ottawa Centre, who took over from Kerry at Savana Café, issued a challenge to her to see who would raise the highest amount.  We'll just see what the final numbers show, Paul!  Don't count your chickens before they hatch!  Especially when you're competing with us chickens...I mean Chicks!  Thanks to all of you who participated by dining in various places around town.  I ran into Jay Koornstra, the Executive Director of Bruce House, this past Saturday at LGXPO and he told me that he continues to be amazed at, and very grateful for, the generosity of the members of LIX.  Way to go girls!  You are making a difference in the lives of people with HIV and AIDS.

If your mom is still alive and you're inclined to send her a card for Mother's Day, have you bought one yet?  I just got home from Shopper's Drug Mart (only the best for my mom) where I was appalled at the offerings in the greeting card section.  Sickeningly sweet, over-sentimentalized, badly written, downright dishonest-sounding tripe!  Now don't get me wrong...I love my mother.  And since I spent those thousands of dollars in therapy working through childhood resentments, I think I can honestly say that she's a really great woman.  But pulleeeeeeze, I couldn't with any integrity send her a card that says "No matter where life leads, my love for you is always right there. Just listen to your heart and...Whoomp! There it is."  Or "On Mother's Day, here's to all the ways you make the world a brighter place. Shine on!"  Shine on?  My mother is 89 years old.  She suffers from high blood pressure, painful arthritis, and macular-degeneration in her eyes.  She hasn't left the house in Hamilton in years except to go to her doctor's appointments or over to my brother's place for dinner a couple of times a year.  Most of her friends are long dead.  This is not a woman who shines on!  God knows what she'd think if I gave her a card like that...probably that menopause is REALLY doing a number on my brain.  I decided to go for a blank card with a lovely floral arrangement on the cover.  Now I just have to figure out what to write in it...

At this month's LIX networking meeting, Deanne Fountaine, our Facebook wizard, gave a five-minute infomercial about a new business that she's developed...Compudogs, a computer problem-solving company.  Deanne has many years of experience working with computer software in corporations.  But one of the things she really prefers to do is help people with their personal computer problems.  After doing this informally for quite awhile, she decided to start a small business.  Because she has her full-time job, she's able to offer her Compudogs services for very reasonable prices...$25 an hour.  In fact, for LIX members, she's offering to work for $20 an hour or even for barter (she, apparently, has a few jobs around the house that she and her wife never seem to get to!).  So if you're ready to pull your hair out after a system crash or you can't find your way around Windows Vista, contact Deanne!  Her business email address is compudogs@gmail.com and her phone number is  (613) 899-0495.

Speaking of Facebook, Deanne asked me to tell new members of the LIX Facebook group that if you don't know how to find the LIX group on your profile, here's what you need to do:
1. Choose "Groups" from the list of applications on the left side of the page
2. Click "My Groups"
3. Select "Secret Groups" from the drop-down list.

For those of you who haven't joined the LIX Facebook group and who would like to, you can find detailed information on how to join by going to the LIX web site (www.girlswanttoknow.com) and checking the March 2008 e-news.  Or send an email to Deanne at deannef@gmail.com.

So my dears...Happy Mother's Day to all of you who are moms.  I can't wait to see what Ana is going to bring home from grade 2 for us...they've been working on a Mother's Day surprise!  Poor kid probably had to stay in at recess since she had to make two of whatever it is.  Talk to you next month...
